# Chapter 78

Boss, who had come to see Nelaim to check on Kay’s physical condition, asked, “There’s nothing unusual, right?”

“Yes, there are no special abnormalities.”

Nelaim nodded while examining the medical records, then finished speaking and observed Boss’s expression. After fidgeting with his mouth for a while as if he had something to say, he finally seemed to make up his mind and opened his mouth.

“Um… but there is one problem.”

With both fists clenched tightly, Nelaim was visibly tense. Boss noticed his demeanor and narrowed his eyes.

“What is it?”

Though the pressure enveloping his entire body was almost unbearable, Nelaim closed his eyes tightly and managed to speak.

“My ability doesn’t work on Kay-nim.”

“Your ability?”

After rolling his eyes to gauge Boss’s reaction, he was able to relax a little upon seeing Boss’s unexpectedly mild demeanor. Nelaim’s much smoother voice filled the silence.

“Yes, normally when I use my ability, all information should appear, but with Kay-nim… that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s too clean.”

His ability allows him to see what others cannot see. There was nothing that he couldn’t see, regardless of what kind of living being it was. But in Kay’s case, something was off. It wasn’t that he couldn’t see anything. However, only basic information appeared, and nothing beyond that.

Basic information meant height, weight, and other truly fundamental details. The fact that this was all he could see from Kay meant his ability essentially didn’t work on him.

“At first I thought it was because of your ability, but I thought it would be best to tell you anyway.”

When Kay had come to him before his death, this hadn’t happened. He had clearly seen even Kay’s remaining lifespan, which is why he had given him a terminal prognosis. So Nelaim thought this current phenomenon was because Boss had revived Kay.

It was something Boss should know about, so he couldn’t keep hiding it. That’s why Nelaim had been looking for an opportunity to tell him. However, he kept missing the timing to speak up, which is why it had been delayed until today.

It was clearly his fault for only mentioning this now. Nelaim found it difficult to deal with Boss. Behind his smile lurked something dark and unapproachable. Even with his ability, he couldn’t identify what it was.

So Nelaim wanted to avoid Boss as much as possible. This time was no different. Though he knew he should tell him, fear had prevented him from doing so.

His heart pounded as if it might burst at any moment as he imagined what would happen next. He was prepared to accept whatever Boss said, knowing he had done wrong, but that didn’t make it any less frightening.

Nelaim felt his mouth go dry as he waited for what felt like a death sentence.

“…Indeed, there could be differences from a normal body.”

However, contrary to his expectations, Nelaim’s eyes widened at Boss’s response. He had clearly expected to be warned about why he hadn’t spoken up sooner.

Though it would have been just a warning, Boss’s demeanor would have been enough to make one’s knees weak. Some people had actually fainted from it, so Nelaim was terrified to even imagine it.

But now, Boss wasn’t blaming him for only speaking up now. What was going on? Nelaim’s eyes began to tremble for a different reason.

It was due to surprise rather than fear. Nelaim cautiously raised his gaze from the floor to observe Boss. He had been too afraid to look closely before, but now that he did, Boss seemed somehow gentler than before.

His relaxed attitude wasn’t a facade. It truly felt as if something inside him had been released. Though his face was definitely the same, his unfamiliar demeanor made Nelaim wonder if this really was Boss.

His once frosty red eyes had softened, and the characteristic pressure that Boss exuded couldn’t be felt. Dumbfounded, Nelaim couldn’t take his eyes off him.

If he were sick, it might make sense, but judging by his condition, he didn’t seem to be ill.

Nelaim’s persistent gaze pierced through him. Sensing such a blatant stare was easy for Boss. But he didn’t reprimand Nelaim for his behavior.

“I understand for now.”

He simply let it pass as if nothing had happened. Boss nodded, seemed to think for a moment, and then stood up.

“Ah…”

Only then did Nelaim snap back to reality with a start, but Boss was already gone. Staring blankly at the chair where he had been sitting, Nelaim muttered, “What on earth is happening…?”

Boss had changed. Though he appeared gentle on the surface due to his polite speech, there wasn’t a single member of Alice who didn’t know Boss’s true nature.

He wasn’t cruel, but he wasn’t kind either. He didn’t easily kill people, but he didn’t save them either. He was merely an onlooker who just observed everything. A person who appeared warm but was colder than anyone else.

Sometimes, while looking at him, Nelaim would wonder if he was truly human. That’s how perfect and fearsome Boss was.

But when he saw Boss just now, such questions didn’t cross his mind. There was no warm smile or behavior, but he appeared gentler than at any other moment Nelaim had seen him.

Seeing him like that, Nelaim realized for the first time that Boss was also human.

The reason Fenil and Boss had kept the Peace members alive at the abandoned factory was to buy time. While Boss was dealing with the trap inside the factory, Fenil had been recording everything.

Originally, they hadn’t planned to go this far. But after hearing the contemptuous words of those who underestimated Alice, their minds changed. Perhaps because they had been too quiet lately? The attitude of those who treated them like fish already caught was enough to infuriate Fenil.

To thoroughly shatter such attitudes, it was necessary to clearly show who had the upper hand. That’s why Fenil had recorded everything that happened at the abandoned factory.

Since there were no surveillance cameras around, she had no choice but to fly a drone. It was her first time recording this way, so she had worried, “What if it doesn’t come out well?” But the video turned out better than expected. A smile spread across Fenil’s face as the footage clearly showed Boss trampling them.

“I wonder if this is good enough.”

The video captured scenes of Boss destroying the factory and killing Peace members. Fenil was planning to send this video to that person from Peace. Though it was a somewhat childish method, sometimes such things were necessary.

Normally, she would have welcomed an enemy’s carelessness. But in this case, she simply couldn’t. Who would welcome Peace treating Alice like dogs? At least she wouldn’t.

Being hostile to Peace wasn’t helpful for Alice at all. That’s why Alice had avoided friction with Peace and maintained a relatively smooth relationship.

But recently, perhaps thinking the organization was afraid, Peace had been becoming increasingly aggressive. Almost as if they were going to devour Alice.

That’s why they were probably creating pathetic traps and trying to strangle the organization. If they remained passive in such a situation, there was a high probability that Peace would make unreasonable demands later. Doing nothing would indirectly show that they couldn’t resist Peace.

To prevent that, it was necessary to demonstrate Alice’s power to some extent.

“Though being pissed off is the main reason.”

The previous reason was just a pretext. Listening to the vulgar words they spoke through the bug she had installed to assess the situation, she simply couldn’t stay still. Those people definitely needed to be taught a lesson, no matter what.

And as Fenil had intended, they had been able to show a clear difference in skill through this opportunity. When that person received this video, he would probably come to his senses a bit. Fenil continued editing while humming a tune, just imagining it made her happy.

“This is…”

But something caught her attention. It was in a secluded corner, so she hadn’t noticed it before, but it was so obvious that she couldn’t understand why she hadn’t spotted it.

Fenil enlarged that section and examined the situation in detail. What had happened there began to flash before her eyes.

Simultaneously, the corners of Fenil’s mouth hardened. What she was watching was a scene of one man killing another.

As a member of the organization, she wasn’t surprised by murder. What Fenil was focusing on was the man’s face. If she wasn’t mistaken, his identity was Kane, the researcher Boss had brought in.

“What’s going on?”

The other person was also from Peace, so there was no reason for them to kill each other. Moreover, that wasn’t the only surprising thing.

Kane’s actions as he killed him. He slit the throat so nonchalantly. A beginner would try to stab the abdomen or thrust a knife into the back.

But Kane had slit the throat naturally and killed the opponent with just one strike.

It wasn’t something an ordinary person who hadn’t learned killing techniques could do.

“And Zenon too…”

As if it had been planned with him, Zenon approached Kane’s side shortly after. Then he began to dispose of the corpse. Whatever was happening, Zenon wasn’t treating him like an enemy. He even seemed comfortable. That’s why it was even more incomprehensible.

Zenon would clearly harbor resentment towards Peace. Yet, he was showing such a friendly attitude towards Kane, who was in charge of Alice at Peace.

She had discovered something surprising in the video meant to be shown to Peace. Without this video, she might never have suspected Kane. She would have gone by without knowing why he could commit murder without hesitation, what kind of relationship he had with Zenon, without knowing anything.

Should she be grateful that she found out now? Fenil stopped editing and quickly began typing.

She needed to know everything about Kane. And she needed to find out who Kane really was.
