I’m Temporarily Protecting the #1 Ranked 73

# Chapter 73

“Why did you bring Mungchi? He could’ve stayed at home.”

It’s not like we need to feed him. To Jaekyung’s question, Iyeon responded with a completely drained expression.

“I tried to persuade him to stay home, but he almost destroyed the front door.”

Jaekyung didn’t dare to ask for details, sensing the deep-rooted exhaustion emanating from Iyeon’s entire body.

“Still, all your company colleagues following you on vacation, you must be really close. Especially that scary guy—he seems like someone who wouldn’t enjoy coming to a place like this.”

“I wonder about that too…”

He agreed to come so nonchalantly that at first, I thought I might have invited him and forgotten about it, but seeing that he booked a separate room, it was entirely Sano’s own decision. A suite room, no less. I didn’t need to check to know who arranged it.

“But how did you end up recruiting that guy? What’s his name?”

Iyeon briefly contemplated how shocked Jaekyung would be if he revealed Sano’s identity. Would he avoid him with a scowl? Or would he try to find some weakness and chase after Sano? Either way, Iyeon, caught in the middle, would be the one inconvenienced.

“Why don’t you ask him directly?”

“What? No way! He’s scary.”

I guess Jaekyung won’t be surprised by learning Je Sano’s identity anytime soon. Even terminal peace is peace. Iyeon looked contentedly at the horrified Jaekyung.

“You seem really interested in our part-timer.”

“Honestly, his abilities and all… he’s just so different from you.”

Jaekyung delivered a verbal blow without warning. Not even knowing I extended his life… Too tired to point this out, Iyeon answered straightforwardly.

“What power could I possibly have? Just, well, he said he wanted to do it, so…”

“Wow, you totally lucked out, didn’t you?”

“He is a big help. From what I heard, he’s looking for something. He said he’d stay until he finds it, so I agreed.”

“What’s he looking for?”

Iyeon hesitated for a moment. How would Jaekyung react to someone working an unpaid part-time job just to find some poop? Even Jongchan and Jonghee, Sano’s stalkers, couldn’t maintain their composure when they heard about it. Would Jaekyung, who was closer to being an anti-fan, really…

“Come on, tell me.”

But Jaekyung seemed genuinely curious about Sano, who apparently had some circumstances. Under his persistent urging, Iyeon reluctantly opened his mouth. Since Jaekyung had experienced Sano’s intimidation firsthand, he probably wouldn’t talk nonsense.

“He says he’s looking for inbun.”

Even though Iyeon pronounced the “inbun” part as quietly as possible, Jaekyung somehow caught it perfectly. He stopped his hands, which had been organizing the counter, and opened his eyes wide. Anticipating what Jaekyung might say, Iyeon mumbled an excuse.

“Well, it’s not that strange… he just has some circumstances…”

“Was that friend of yours involved in some criminal organization before?”

“What?”

It was an unexpected question. When Iyeon asked back in confusion, Jaekyung seemed even more puzzled.

“No matter how famous it is, it’s not something a normal person working in the mainstream would know about. Was he doing something illegal?”

“…Why? What is inbun?”

It doesn’t mean excrement? This was the most shocking information I’ve heard lately.

The situation had somehow shifted to Iyeon interrogating Jaekyung. Jaekyung made a thoughtful sound and explained step by step. He had made many friends involved in illegal activities when he worked at the club, and he still actively maintained those relationships.

“There’s a famous saying in this world: ‘If you catch Cheongho (靑蝴), you can become a billionaire.'”

Iyeon’s eyes widened.

“Cheongho? Mungchi?”

“No. The pronunciation is the same, but the Chinese characters are different. Not the ‘ho’ (虎) for tiger, but the ‘ho’ (蝴) for butterfly.”

That’s a relief. I might have felt cheated for not being a billionaire despite having Cheongho.

If you catch Cheongho, you can become a billionaire… Iyeon silently mulled over Jaekyung’s words. It sounded like something out of a legend. The fact that he had never heard it before suggested it was an expression used only in the underground world.

“Is there another variant called Cheongho besides our Mungchi?”

It would be quite troublesome to give variants homonymic names administratively—a surprisingly unexpected decision. Is it some legendary variant? It seems to have a very high value. While considering whether to go butterfly hunting, Jaekyung shook his head.

“No. It’s not a variant but a person. You probably don’t know, but…”

Cheongho… a person whose name means “blue butterfly.” Iyeon’s previously calm gaze turned slightly sharp.

“Morpho?”

“Huh? How do you know that?”

“I heard it from Kim Cheoljae-ssi.”

Ah. Jaekyung nodded as if he understood.

“What’s the connection between Morpho and inbun?”

“Butterflies release inbun when they fly.”

“Butterflies go around spraying poop?”

“Could you please move past the poop? Why do you like poop so much?”

Grimacing, Jaekyung searched “inbun” on his phone and showed Iyeon. Iyeon’s gaze scanned the white screen.

Inbun (鱗粉). [Noun] Scale-like secretions on the wings of butterflies, moths, etc.

“Well, if you know nothing about these terms like you, it’s easy to mistake it for excrement. That’s why people use it as a code word when trying to get information about him. Information about Morpho’s inbun trades for an incredibly high price.”

“I see…”

After months, the misunderstanding about Je Sano being a poop collector was finally cleared up.

“Your friend probably picked up that term somewhere and is looking for Morpho. Not only is Morpho himself a genius, but even getting just one of the things Morpho has created and selling it would make becoming rich a piece of cake.”

“I see…”

Iyeon’s response was closer to a reflexive groan than an actual answer. His light-colored eyes shook with confusion. To think that Je Sano was looking for Morpho.

Of course, he didn’t think Sano’s goal was money. There would be few humans in the world richer than a superhuman who could dig up all the buried treasures in the ground if he set his mind to it.

Which means he wants something else.

…But why?

The part-time job they were doing wasn’t that difficult, as Jaekyung had boasted. It involved selling souvenirs like natural soaps, fans, and sun-catchers to hotel guests, and like most souvenir shops, the prices were on the expensive side, so there weren’t many customers.

Since Hyegang and Sano hadn’t come to work part-time in the first place, they were truly enjoying their leisure time.—Hyegang had agreed to take care of Mungchi.— They would wake up late, eat, wash up, then crawl out to the pool for some sunbathing and swimming. By the time they were done playing, Iyeon would finish work and join them. Then they would all eat together, have a drink, watch Hyegang and Sano get hit on, go back to sleep, and when Iyeon woke up, he would go to work again…

It didn’t take even two days to realize something was wrong with this picture.

“Oh, hyung. Is it your break time?”

“No. I escaped.”

“Again?”

Next to the swimming pool glistening in the sunlight were several sun beds lined up in a row. Taking advantage of the moment when Jaekyung was dealing with a customer, Iyeon, who had escaped, sat dejectedly on the edge of the sun bed where Hyegang was lying.

‘We all went on vacation together, so why am I the only one working again?’

Wearing just one smooth, wide-legged swim short, Hyegang looked so well-fed and well-rested that his face was gleaming with vitality. With the aura of an overwhelmingly beautiful young man, people around them were stealing glances at him.

“Hyung, good timing. Let’s take a picture.”

“What picture?”

Iyeon puzzledly took Hyegang’s phone. With such a pretty face, he looked like a painting harmonizing with the hotel scenery no matter how he posed.

“There’s some hotel event where if you take pictures and let them post them on their official SNS, they’ll upgrade your room.”

“…Is there such a thing?”

“Yeah. An employee came and told me earlier.”

It smelled like a hastily made-up excuse. Iyeon looked around suspiciously, but due to Hyegang’s nagging to hurry up, he reluctantly focused on the phone screen.

“Thanks. Apply some sunscreen for me too.”

After just briefly checking the photo of the two of them together, Hyegang immediately handed Iyeon the sunscreen. The way he flipped over and lay on his stomach was a very natural ploy.

This brat, really knows how to use his hyung effectively. Staring blankly at the snow-white back, Iyeon eventually squeezed out the cream and started rubbing it in. His back was as soft as a baby’s skin, as if he had just received an extensive spa treatment.

“Don’t just apply it roughly, be thorough.”

“If you’re too demanding, I might apply it in a heart shape.”

Just then, something flew toward them. Iyeon’s hand, which reflexively tried to catch it, slipped due to the cream and ended up dropping it on the ground.

When he bent down to check the object, it was sunscreen. What’s this about? Iyeon looked up at the rascal who had suddenly thrown their sunscreen.
