I’m Temporarily Protecting the #1 Ranked 68

# Chapter 68

“Let’s go together.”

His legs were ridiculously long; Iyeon quickly became out of breath trying to keep up with Sano, who strode across the hall as if using some kind of teleportation technique. Only then did he realize how considerate Sano had always been, matching his pace with Iyeon’s.

“Hey, why are your legs so long…”

“Quiet.”

Feeling shy? You bastard. Be quiet. Iyeon’s idle chatter only stopped when Sano tilted his chin to point toward the door.

“Is that Lee Seeun?”

Iyeon’s gaze turned toward the entrance. A woman in a white mini dress with large flowers printed on it and wavy, short hair. Seeun was walking with her head down, her face dark.

“Where is she going?”

The two followed her carefully, keeping their distance. They saw Seeun leave the hall and head in the opposite direction from the elevator.

Her steps were quick and urgent as she walked down the quiet corridor. Thanks to the carpet on the floor, Seeun seemed unaware that Iyeon and Sano were following her.

She was heading toward the emergency exit stairs.

“Is she trying to leave?”

Whatever the reason, it would be troublesome for them if she left the building. Iyeon, gripping the stair railing, called out loudly.

“Seeun-ssi.”

“…Iyeon oppa?”

Seeun, who had been descending the stairs, turned around with wide eyes. Discovering Iyeon standing a few steps above her, she approached in confusion.

“How did you…”

“I felt bad that we didn’t get to properly say hello earlier.”

Iyeon, lying smoothly without hesitation, reached out his hand. It looked like he was offering an escort.

“I also have something to talk about.”

“What is it?”

When Seeun took his hand with a puzzled expression, Iyeon smiled slightly.

“It’s about this bracelet.”

As he spoke, his other hand moved toward Seeun’s wrist. The bracelet, which fit snugly around her slender wrist, was a bit stiff but not so tight that an adult man couldn’t remove it. Her wrist, suddenly bare, turned slightly red.

“Wh-what are you doing!”

The startled Seeun lunged at Iyeon, but he easily evaded her by slightly shifting his body. His pale face, holding the bracelet, became stern.

“Seeun-ssi. This is a very dangerous item. Where did you get it?”

“What does it have to do with you, Iyeon oppa? Give it back!”

Seeun shouted sharply. Hostility briefly flashed across her small face.

But he had no intention of returning it. If Seeun continued to wear this bracelet, not only would her gi-ryeok be drained, but eventually she would collapse unconscious like Subin. He couldn’t just turn a blind eye knowing this.

“I’m telling you, it’s dangerous. You could get hurt, Seeun-ssi.”

“What’s dangerous about it? It’s just a pretty bracelet.”

Seeun asked as if she couldn’t understand. Her attitude was so confident that Iyeon momentarily became confused. Did she not know the bracelet’s true nature?

If she had simply received it as a gift, that was possible. Especially if she was not a superhuman… While he was pondering how to explain this, Seeun shouted again.

“It’s an ordinary bracelet. I bought it from a store I like!”

If she says that, it changes things.

“Really?”

The most effective approach with someone stubbornly lying was to show them undeniable evidence. As Iyeon put the bracelet on his own wrist, Sano, who was behind him, quietly warned.

“Jung Iyeon.”

Despite the growl-like call, Iyeon didn’t look back.

“Don’t worry. I know my limits.”

Although he didn’t know what superpower was contained in this bracelet, he had no intention of using much gi-ryeok. He only needed to demonstrate enough to counter Seeun’s claim. Considering the proportion of gi-ryeok and output he had used when handling Subin’s bracelet previously…

‘Huh?’

Exerting force through his hand, Iyeon unconsciously frowned.

He was definitely using the bracelet’s superpower, but something familiar flowed through his blood. A much smaller amount of gi-ryeok than when using Subin’s bracelet was being sucked into this one.

When he blinked once, white particles gathered around Seeun’s wrist and the stair railing. The particles soon transformed into precise handcuffs. The startled Seeun tried to move her wrist, but it was blocked with a clinking sound.

“Let me go!”

Seeun’s cries didn’t reach Iyeon. From the moment he used the bracelet’s ability, he was already beyond caring about her.

Iyeon stared at the bracelet on his wrist with a very strange expression.

“…This can’t be.”

It can’t be… The faint afterwords flowed out between his breaths like a candle being extinguished. His quiet murmur somehow resembled a scream.

“Seeun-ssi. Do you know Morpho?”

“I don’t know anything about that. Let me go…!”

“Morpho is…”

Iyeon, who had been mumbling absently, hastily closed his mouth. Sano was behind him. It was best to minimize any suspicious statements.

Needless to say, different types of superpowers were distinct, but even with the same type, the gi-ryeok wavelength differed if the holder was different. This meant that not all flame ability users could share and use another person’s flame ability.

The gi-ryeok Iyeon just used was a minuscule amount. If it were telekinesis, it would barely lift a feather; if it were strength enhancement, it would only slightly dent a steel plate—a very, very small amount of gi-ryeok.

It was impossible to create such precise handcuffs using someone else’s superpower with just that amount.

With one exception.

“Huh…”

This was truly an unexpected development. Iyeon let out a hollow laugh.

The logic was simple. It wasn’t possible with someone else’s superpower, but it was possible with one’s own.

The superpower contained in the bracelet was Iyeon’s own.

“Did Morpho really make something like this?”

Since he was using his own ability, a small amount of gi-ryeok was sufficient for high efficiency. It wasn’t much different from using the superpower within his own body.

Iyeon extended his foot onto the stair. His round, gentle eyes had hardened. His descent, one step at a time, was neither fast nor slow, but somehow felt chilling.

“What does Iyeon oppa have to do with Morpho? Do you even know what Morpho is?”

“I do. The person who created the terrain setting function for combat zones, right?”

He probably knew much better than she thought. It was only natural.

After all, the materialization ability used in the terrain setting function was Iyeon’s.

A landscape from a distant memory suddenly raised its head. A small prison, completely white, completely white.

Watching the color fade from a small jewel, Iyeon quietly clenched his fist. The slowly undulating gi-ryeok disappeared beneath his veins.

There was no need to draw well. Without necessity, there was no enthusiasm.

He could implement everything without anything like drawings.

Iyeon stopped one step above where Seeun stood and leaned down. Placing his face near her ear, he whispered just quietly enough that Sano behind him couldn’t hear.

“Why, Seeun-ssi, do you also think that person has materialization ability?”

The bracelet owner with superpower used in the terrain setting function. Since Iyeon, the owner of the ability, was living while hiding his power, if Seeun had no connection to Morpho, this link wouldn’t make any sense.

A long silence followed. Seeun, who had been constantly moving her lips as if to speak, eventually seemed to give up, closing her mouth and lowering her head. Iyeon, straightening his upper body again, comforted her dejected shoulders.

“Don’t look so gloomy. I’ll let you go soon.”

“…What?”

Seeun raised her head again. Her eyes, looking at him as if confused, trembled slightly.

“Just tell me who the bracelet dealer is. You’re not the bracelet dealer, are you, Seeun-ssi?”

Iyeon smiled as usual.

“Our target is the bracelet dealer. I’m neither an apostle of justice nor a great ambitious person. I don’t care what Morpho, that person, is doing with their life.”

“I was a bit excited when I asked earlier. I’m sorry. Were you scared? Iyeon said playfully, raising both hands in surrender.

“That…”

Seeun frowned. It was less like anger and more like she couldn’t understand the current situation.

BOOM!

However, before Seeun could say anything, a faint explosion was heard. It was a violent noise that shouldn’t be heard in a peaceful hotel. Both of them froze in place.

Iyeon raised his head and gauged the distance. Not inside the hall, but somewhere nearby indoors. The rooms they had casually glimpsed while walking down the corridor flashed through Iyeon’s mind. Hotel hall, conference room, banquet hall, seminar room…

And the restroom.

An ominous, intangible intuition gently gripped his heart.
