# Chapter 127
“Wasting time with useless suspicions.”
A well-built body entered the room. Hearing the familiar voice, Iyeon turned his head quickly and called out with an unconsciously brightened face.
“Je Sano.”
Sano walked over with large strides and stood beside Iyeon.
“This is a waste of time.”
“Je Sano. Even for you, this is overstepping your authority.”
Heesu’s voice lowered. With evidence discovered, a convincing explanation was needed. A simple denial from a Mugunghwa 5-tier wasn’t going to cut it.
“Is it your right to bring in a victim and interrogate them?”
“Victim? But Jung Iyeon-ssi doesn’t have any record…”
“He changed his identity.”
“Hey!”
Iyeon shouted angrily at Sano, who had instantly exposed someone else’s past. Really, while he was racking his brain to help hide Sano’s past, this guy just bluntly…
“Changed identity? Did you change your name?”
“Ah, well…”
Iyeon reluctantly bowed his head. It wasn’t common, but it occasionally happened that victims of certain incidents changed their names to avoid connections with their past. Thanks to this, Heesu accepted it without much suspicion.
“It seems you registered as a superhuman normally once you became an adult. So this happened when you were a minor?”
What should I do? Iyeon pondered briefly but soon nodded slightly. Since things had come to this, if he could just vaguely gloss over it without specifically identifying Sano and Morpho… Sano, looking down disapprovingly at the top of Iyeon’s head, opened his mouth again.
“And Morp—”
It was truly an instant when his hand moved before his thoughts. Despite the goosebumps rising from the sensation of lips moving against his palm, Iyeon somehow managed to successfully cover Sano’s mouth, forcing an awkward smile.
“Sorry. The kid has poor manners toward his elders…”
“…I’m used to that part.”
While Heesu raised an eyebrow slightly, some of his sharpness had diminished, though his eyes were still full of suspicion.
“More importantly, just now…”
“Ack! Hey, what are you doing?!”
Iyeon jumped up. This time, he wasn’t trying to interrupt Heesu’s words; he felt something wet and soft against his palm. Did you just lick my hand? Are you crazy? Unable to wipe his damp palm, he stood awkwardly while Sano looked at him and muttered mischievously.
“Thought you wanted me to put my mouth on it.”
“Who in their right mind would want that? Are you insane?”
“Is that all your vocabulary can muster? Maybe you should have studied Korean instead of spending so much time partying.”
“Come on, seriously. I don’t even go out that much…”
Did he have a vendetta against entertainment? Why was he so hung up on this? Iyeon was huffing and responding when he paused. Wait a minute.
“Both of you, do you think this is a playground? Before I lock you up for obstructing official duties, I suggest you cooperate sincerely…”
“Director.”
Iyeon’s face, interrupting Heesu’s attempt to lecture them, had become much more serious than before. Seeing his concerning demeanor, Heesu, though furrowing his brow, quietly waited for him to continue.
“Do you know what Mirae does in her free time after school?”
“…What’s with this sudden question?”
It was out of the blue. Despite Heesu’s bewildered reaction, Iyeon ignored it and quickly rolled his eyes, deep in thought. Over ten vlogs from Mirae. The strange sense of discomfort felt among seemingly ordinary videos.
Mirae’s videos all dealt only with basic aspects of life. Eating, dressing, sleeping, going to school.
Nothing else was revealed.
Vlogs naturally show one’s daily life. Even without going somewhere exciting, light walks, playing house, what one usually does to pass time, things like that.
Mirae is an eight-year-old girl, and school ends in the early afternoon. She must have an enormous amount of free time until bedtime. However, Heesu, who effectively takes care of her, must be absent most of the time because he has to go to work at the Superpower Management Office.
Iyeon, too, had only talked with Mirae about what they would do when they met later, not about what she was currently doing. He did remember asking. Everyday questions like whether her grandmother or aunt played with her well, what kind of toys she liked. But he never received clear answers.
Mirae, almost meticulously, never mentioned what she played with or who she was with.
“Why is Mirae coming up here? Trying to change the subject like this won’t work.”
“Director, I’m serious right now. Just think about it once. Not before, but recently.”
At Iyeon’s words, Heesu frowned.
“Well, that…”
And then he paused. Come to think of it, he didn’t know either.
“…I’ve been too busy to spend much time with her.”
That was all he said after hesitating briefly.
“But you’re her guardian and you don’t know anything? Besides recording vlogs, what she does with her time?”
“That’s…”
Heesu hesitated a bit longer than before but ultimately couldn’t give a clear answer. From that reaction, Iyeon was certain. There was definitely a suspicious gap in Mirae’s life.
“Let’s talk about that later. I’d like to hear about your past first.”
But Heesu didn’t seem interested in continuing that conversation. As the man returned to his official demeanor and urged sternly, Iyeon slightly furrowed his brows. Once suspicion arose, everything seemed suspicious.
At that moment, the door opened again.
“Director.”
An employee approached with urgent steps and whispered something into Heesu’s ear. Listening quietly, Heesu suddenly frowned deeply.
“You’re telling me this now?”
“I’m sorry.”
Pressing his wrinkled brow, Heesu sighed. He looked strangely tired, and only then did Iyeon realize that Heesu’s face had become generally haggard.
“Jung Iyeon-ssi, please wait here for a moment.”
“What?”
The matter the employee brought must have been urgent, as Heesu stood up. Wait, you’re just going to detain someone indefinitely like this? When Iyeon asked with an incredulous face, a cold warning came.
“If you try to leave by force, I intend to interrogate you through formal procedures, so please think carefully.”
Currently, Iyeon had been “politely” guided here. As evidence, he hadn’t been body-searched or had his communication devices confiscated. It was a kind of special treatment, if you could call it that. It wasn’t difficult to guess that a formal interrogation would be even more stringent.
Heesu also warned Sano in a deliberately fierce tone.
“And you too. Taking Jung Iyeon-ssi out without my permission is obstruction of official duties.”
Sano turned his head as if he hadn’t heard, but Heesu seemed to think that warning was enough. He soon left the room quickly with the employee. With a click, the two people were left alone, and silence flowed between them.
“…How did you know I was here?”
Iyeon was the first to speak. When he asked awkwardly, Sano plopped down on the chair next to Iyeon and responded indifferently.
“It’s obvious where an idiot who handed over a gem refined with his own gi-ryeok would be.”
“…”
Stay calm, Jung Iyeon. Je Sano helped me. Even if he speaks annoyingly, he helped me… As Iyeon was muttering to himself and slowly unclenching his fists, Sano’s words continued.
“I don’t know what great secret you’re trying to hide.”
His voice truly conveyed his lack of understanding, which made Iyeon involuntarily flare up.
“…It’s not exactly a happy story.”
These were events that couldn’t generate positive waves. Negative public opinion was predictable, and that could ruin everything Sano had built up until now. Iyeon was just acting to avoid becoming a blemish on Sano’s record at the very least.
“It’s because of that damn terrain setting function.”
Sano spoke decisively, noticing Iyeon’s hesitation. Since that was part of the reason, Iyeon mumbled glumly.
“It’s better to use it while I can…”
“What a great volunteer.”
It was a cold snort. Of course, the foundation of the technology wasn’t good, and he knew it wasn’t right… But I’m okay with it. Iyeon grumbled inwardly. Even with some gi-ryeok taken, Iyeon lived just fine. As Sano said, he could just consider it volunteering.
Sano glared at Iyeon’s head with an irritated gaze as he thought this. Iyeon’s thoughts were obvious without even looking. He couldn’t not know. Jung Iyeon hadn’t changed one bit from when he was Lee Jeongyeon.
“So you’re going to live like this forever?”
“Hey, it’s a more satisfying life than you think.”
Looking closely, this guy seems to disrespect the life of a 2-tier hunter as easily as breathing. Even as Iyeon glared sideways and complained, the irritation didn’t leave Sano’s face.
“You promised me.”
“…Huh?”
Iyeon asked stupidly. His heart thumped loudly even though he didn’t understand immediately.
“When you said you’d become a hunter, that was then.”
