# Chapter 8
Not everyone in this world is a good person. The same goes for ability users.
After 10 years as a Guide, what I’ve realized is that there are more trash among ability users than among ordinary people.
Maybe they’ve all gone mad from being revered and treated specially because of powers that ordinary people can’t possess.
Espers in particular were full of tremendous pride that they were protecting the world. Therefore, they believed they deserved better treatment.
Ten years ago, when Jiwon had just awakened as a Guide, it was even worse. Back then, Guides weren’t even treated as fellow ability users.
But as time passed, Guides’ standing improved, and now, at least superficially, Espers and Guides appeared to be on equal footing.
Even the boastful Espers started to read the social atmosphere. At least they were becoming more aware.
But that’s just the surface. Looking deeper into the reality, the world of Espers is still rotten to the core. They’re still trapped in their superiority complex.
The Esper Park Minwoo, who was now speaking to Jiwon, was no different.
“Not saying anything?”
Jiwon had a blacklist. On it were the names of several Espers including Park Minwoo. These were Espers who tried to use Guides like toys, ordering them around as needed.
The blacklist was created to prevent them from coming to the center where Jiwon worked. But right now, Jiwon was in the field. He should have considered the possibility of meeting people like Park Minwoo.
“I’m so happy to see you, Guide-nim. Are you going to ignore me? Oh, that’s too harsh.”
“Ha.”
He had completely forgotten about this while focusing on Suhyun. His brain was only now starting to work again. Jiwon let out a hollow laugh and looked at Park Minwoo.
“What victim would be happy to see an attempted rapist? You’re making me sick, so get lost.”
Jiwon spoke to Park Minwoo in a calm but low voice. His tone suggested, ‘How dare you approach me?’
“…Attempted rape?”
Suhyun’s muttered voice was heard. Jiwon clicked his tongue and took a deep breath. Only after speaking did he realize Suhyun was beside him. It was evidence of how flustered Jiwon was by the encounter with Park Minwoo.
He didn’t want Suhyun to know about this pathetic past incident that happened because of his own weakness.
“Ha, attempted rape? You’re exaggerating.”
Though likely for different reasons, Park Minwoo also seemed aware of Seo Suhyun, glancing at him briefly before continuing to speak shamelessly. Jiwon, having regained his composure, suppressed his rising anger for now.
There was no need to bring up an incident that had been hushed up. Suhyun wasn’t the only one here. This wasn’t the right place to unleash a torrent of curses.
In such a nasty story, Jiwon’s name would likely be mentioned more prominently than Park Minwoo’s. And if Suhyun’s name got dragged into it too…
“I was just trying to get some guiding, since you refused to do it.”
Jiwon took a long, deep breath. He felt the urge to rip Minwoo’s mouth apart, but he was trying to be a true intellectual.
“I didn’t want to do it, so I didn’t. Well, that’s in the past, so I won’t talk about it anymore. But don’t speak to me. I seriously feel like I’m going to vomit.”
“You’re so high and mighty…”
‘For a Guide.’
The unspoken words were almost audible, and it wasn’t just his imagination.
Jiwon ignored Park Minwoo and grabbed Suhyun’s arm. He’d never touched even a fingertip outside of guiding, but his desire to leave this place took precedence.
“But, Seo Suhyun.”
The first to react to that touch wasn’t Suhyun but Park Minwoo. He called Suhyun’s name with a twisted smile. Jiwon’s brow immediately furrowed. The honorific “Esper-nim,” commonly used among ability users, had been omitted.
“When you see a senior, you should greet them first. Why are you just standing there blankly?”
The words that followed made Jiwon even more dumbfounded.
Senior? Greetings?
What kind of nonsense was this?
Terms like ‘senior’ and ‘junior’ don’t exist among ability users. The age of awakening, rank, and everything else differs, making seniority ambiguous and hard to remember.
That’s why everyone unified their address to ‘Esper-nim’ and ‘Guide-nim.’ As a sign of mutual respect.
“Huh…”
And now he’s talking about seniors and ordering someone to greet him? He was making up his own rules. This was unacceptable.
“Huh? Are you also acting high and mighty?”
Park Minwoo sneered. At the same time, the anger that Jiwon had been suppressing with difficulty surged again. A big part of it was the realization that Suhyun had been calling Park Minwoo ‘senior.’
That meant Seo Suhyun might have associated with Park Minwoo in such a way.
Just the thought made his skin crawl and his mouth go dry, causing Jiwon to shake his head vigorously. Hasty assumptions were forbidden. It would be right to confirm this directly with Suhyun later.
For now, Jiwon decided to correct Park Minwoo’s ‘senior’ nonsense first. They might as well divide by rank like a hierarchy. The idea that an S-class Esper should bow to a B-class Esper just because they awakened first.
Even a passing dog would laugh at that. At the very least, Jiwon absolutely couldn’t tolerate it.

Jiwon, who had turned away, opened his mouth again and tried to approach Park Minwoo. But because Suhyun suddenly pulled on his arm, he ended up hiding behind Suhyun instead.

It was clearly a threat that he might attack if Minwoo entered the dungeon.

The one who was surprised was actually Jiwon. He never expected Suhyun to react like this. It would have been more fitting if he had shown displeasure instead.
But realizing that Suhyun was actually taking his side made Jiwon’s chest tingle with a rather pleasant feeling. Even back when the incident with Park Minwoo occurred, no one had openly taken Jiwon’s side like this.
Because it wasn’t a good thing. Because they shouldn’t tarnish the image of Espers who are treated like heroes. Because it could also negatively affect the image of Guides.
Everyone had their own reasons for suggesting to bury the matter. Some even smiled and said that having been a Guide for so long, Jiwon knew the ways of this world better than anyone, so it couldn’t be helped.
Jiwon agreed with them. He was angry that he had to endure such an incident, frustrated that it had to be covered up without anyone knowing, and it even felt lonely at times, but he thought it couldn’t be helped. So it’s okay. He wouldn’t have to see those people again, so he should be satisfied with that.
As time passed, he thought he had truly become okay with it, but it seemed that wasn’t the case. Given how comforted he felt by Suhyun threatening Park Minwoo.
“What’s this now? Hah, are you looking out for him because you’ve signed a dedicated contract? Seo Suhyun, have you lost your mind?”
While Jiwon unconsciously smiled slightly, Park Minwoo, who had hesitated, belatedly began to display his petty pride. He seemed to think Suhyun was just saying empty words.

Meanwhile, Park Minwoo’s face turned pale blue. It was natural to be terrified when he might receive the full brunt of an attack from Suhyun, an S-class Esper.
“Y-You can’t do that…?”
Jiwon opened his mouth to stop Suhyun. The foolish stuttering wasn’t something he could control.
Anyway, Suhyun shouldn’t be doing this now. Because unless it’s a special situation, one shouldn’t attack another Esper. Although Park Minwoo’s approach was somewhat disgusting, this couldn’t be called a special situation.
That incident ended with Park Minwoo being banned from entering the center again. If Suhyun attacked Park Minwoo now, it would only amount to digging up the past incident for revenge.

Though he couldn’t have read Jiwon’s mind, Suhyun gave the impression of saying exactly that. Jiwon swallowed dryly and shook his head.

Leaving behind these certain but somehow unlikely-to-reach-Suhyun-now reasons, Jiwon said:
“If a fight breaks out here…”
Jiwon gestured toward the ordinary people still crowding in front of the barricade. Suhyun, who had turned his head to follow Jiwon’s gaze, soon clenched his fist. At the same time, the opaque sphere also disappeared. He seemed to have realized that civilians could be caught in the crossfire.
“Since you’re already here, you might as well enter the dungeon.”
