Sunset In The Labyrinth 68

The anxious heart quickly disappeared as soon as he met Miro. Eunchan released the embrace and held Miro’s hand. The open main gate was like his own heart, wide open before Miro. Walking slowly through the garden together, Eunchan asked about Miro’s business.

“Can I ask what it was about?”

Since it took a long time, it didn’t seem to be something light.

“Just, Heewoo w-wrote a will.”

“…A will?”

His complexion certainly looked bad, but he didn’t look like someone who would die immediately. Besides, they were looking for blood matching Jang Heewoo from all directions. Eunchan stopped walking and faced Miro, who looked peaceful and unconcerned.

“I-it’s nothing much.”

“Did he happen to write bad things about you, Miro-ssi? Like asking for punishment if he dies?”

Surely he wouldn’t be asking to be held responsible for neglecting his death. Eunchan imagined Miro trapped behind bars and put strength into the hand he was holding.

“It’s just about company shares.”

“…If that’s the case.”

There was no need or reason to interfere. Eunchan quickly cut off his interest and came inside the house. After turning on the lights brighter and sitting sprawled on the sofa, Miro also sat close beside him.

The house that had been scary and chilling when he was alone transformed into a cozy and peaceful space when he was with Miro. Was he a timid personality? Eunchan looked back at himself and swept the side of his forehead.

“What did you talk about with Hyungsik?”

“Nothing much. I asked if there was any work coming in lately.”

He didn’t mention that his wallet had gotten thin from treating Hyungsik. Eunchan rubbed Miro’s soft bangs with his fingers and thought about Jang Heewoo. Did writing a will mean death was right around the corner? Well, patients could become seriously ill overnight. Eunchan hesitated whether to say what was rising inside him or not.

“Just listen to what I’m about to say and forget it. I’m really saying this without any thought.”

After sending off his father, Eunchan had to struggle with emptiness and loneliness. Though he was family that he hated and treated as nonexistent, once he actually lost him, his heart felt empty. He was worried that after Jang Heewoo, who was a stranger but still within the fence of family even if connected only by law, died, Miro would feel the same emotions that Eunchan himself had felt.

“Will you help Heewoo-ssi thinking of it as the last time? If you send him off like this, it doesn’t seem good for you either, Miro-ssi.”

Grandmother always taught Eunchan to use his heart beautifully. Don’t badmouth or humiliate others, she emphasized that bad deeds will eventually come back to you. Because he believed those words, Eunchan had already learned the absurdity of the world firsthand, but he didn’t want to leave even the slightest possibility that could harm Miro. Eunchan carefully broached the subject while gauging Miro’s reaction.

“If Eunchan tells me to do s-so, I’ll do it.”

“No, Miro-ssi should think it through well and do it if you’re okay with it. My opinion isn’t important.”

Eunchan stepped back and said that Miro’s thoughts were most important. He was a completely unrelated person in their relationship and didn’t know well what had happened in the past either. However, Jang Heewoo desperately needed Jang Miro’s help, and although Jang Miro’s adoption had impure intentions, he had inherited a lot of wealth left by his adoptive parents, so it could be said that he actually received sufficient compensation just as Jang Heewoo said.

Should it be said that their calculations matched each other? Though Jang Heewoo’s “intentional traffic accident” was on his mind, that person originally hated Jang Miro terribly anyway, so his words had no credibility.

“Do you like Heewoo?”

“What?”

“Do you like Heewoo?”

At Miro’s sudden question, Eunchan looked flustered and rolled his eyes. He was even more surprised since he had just been thinking about Jang Heewoo. As Eunchan couldn’t answer, Miro’s complexion began to turn white as a corpse.

“Do you like Heewoo?”

Miro put strength into the hand he was holding, enough to hurt each finger joint, and asked again. The atmosphere had clearly been gentle just moments ago, but scared by the sudden informal speech and Miro’s cold eyes, Eunchan answered by shaking his head instead of opening his mouth.

“Really?”

“…Yes, why would I like that person?”

Because Miro’s gaze looking down at him was burdensome, Eunchan turned his eyes away. However, at the touch of Miro’s hand immediately grabbing his chin and turning his head toward him, Eunchan had to face him again.

“Yeah, I was j-just worried… I was nervous.”

Miro, who had come close to his face and was carefully observing Eunchan’s eyes, soon began to smile shyly. Miro, who raised the corners of his mouth roundly, heated his eyes to a pomegranate color like an embarrassed boy.

No, but it seemed like his eyes went crazy for a moment. Eunchan looked with a blank face at Miro, who had returned to being a delicate man. Usually Miro was quiet and gentle without raising his voice, but sometimes he was stubborn and acted like someone whose head was spinning. The phrase “head spinning” meant Miro’s different thought process from normal, such as saying something out of context and out of the blue, or interrogating Eunchan with absurd imaginations.

And now was exactly when Miro’s head was spinning. Eunchan removed Miro’s hand from his chin, then hesitantly pulled his buttocks back.

“I just said it hoping Miro-ssi would make a good choice. It has nothing to do with Heewoo-ssi at all.”

“Y-yes, I believe you. E-Eunchan is kind.”

Though just moments ago he showed no sign of believing at all, Miro said he believed Eunchan like a devout believer.

“…Well, do as you please. I’m tired, so I’ll go in first and rest.”

He wanted to break the frozen atmosphere and also wash away the meat smell on his body with a shower. Eunchan got up, took off his coat and gathered it, then headed to the room.

Walking down the hallway, Eunchan thought that this house resembled its owner a lot. Sometimes dark and creepy, but also soft and cozy. It was very similar to the temperament of the owner who was now following behind him with quick steps.

When he first came, he seemed to have compared Miro and the house to a horror game. A high-difficulty horror game where a bad ending appears if you choose even one wrong option. But this is a romance. Eunchan turned around and faced Miro, who was chasing after him.

“I only have you, Miro-ssi.”

That person was just anxious. Like someone who had something precious for the first time and didn’t know how to manage it, he was just wandering for a moment. Eunchan added certainty to his emotions and kissed Miro’s cheek.

“I-I only have Eunchan too.”

At the confession that immediately returned, Eunchan responded with a smile.

Since he had closed his eyes early yesterday, Eunchan was able to wake up early in the morning. Since he’d even taken a nap, he thought he would stay up with his eyes open until late, but he ended up falling asleep quickly to Miro’s touch patting his chest and lullaby until he fell asleep.

Eunchan looked for Miro, who should be sleeping soundly in the spot next to him, but what greeted him was only the rabbit doll lying with the blanket neatly covering it. Discovering a note placed on the lamp table, Eunchan reached out his arm and unfolded the paper. It was neat and tidy handwriting like Miro’s personality.

『I’m going to the company and will come back. I’ll come quickly. There’s breakfast on the table, so make sure to eat it. ♥Eunchan』

Usually people write their own name at the end of a letter, don’t they? Miro, who engraved Eunchan’s name instead of his own, had even filled the inside of the heart completely. Eunchan, who placed the note next to the rabbit doll, stretched greatly and made today’s plans.

Though Hyungsik told him to stop worrying about it, he couldn’t easily abandon his suspicions about Myeongjin and Han Inju. Perhaps both Jang Miro and Jang Heewoo might be related. Yesterday he was going to ask Miro if he knew Han Inju, but because he was hit with the strange question of whether he liked Jang Heewoo, he couldn’t catch the timing.

Since it came to this, he had no choice but to ask Jang Heewoo. Since he said he even wrote a will, he should go to see how his condition was and to grasp Jang Heewoo’s intentions. Since Miro said he would help Jang Heewoo from now on, on behalf of Miro who was weak at profit calculations, he might have to properly receive that value himself.

Eunchan yawned long and began preparing to spend a long day. He certainly wasn’t going to work, but somehow it didn’t feel like he was resting at all.

After buying a vitamin drink and roughly picking up a magazine related to art at a bookstore, Eunchan stood in front of the hospital room. The various types of potted plants and flower baskets that had increased even more since he last saw them filled the front of the door. Not long after knocking, permission to enter came from inside.

Opening the door and entering, he saw Jang Heewoo sitting on the hospital bed wearing a hat. He was worried if he was very sick since he wrote a will, but fortunately he was still in a lively and healthy state so far.

“Have you been well?”

“Did Jang Miro send you?”

“I came to visit.”

“Why.”

“Don’t you know what a hospital visit means?”

Approaching Jang Heewoo, who had eyes as aloof as a cat, Eunchan held out the drink and magazine he’d bought as gifts.

“It’s a gift. How’s your body? I was a bit surprised to hear you wrote a will.”

“You drink it. What, disappointed that I’m not dying right away without a will?”

No matter what he said, everything was twisted sarcastically, so the conversation didn’t continue at all. Eunchan put down the rejected gifts on the floor, then brought a chair and sat close next to the hospital bed.
